The Rift – Intro
A mysteriously bizarre theme, Kraken-like beasts and flaming books is what The Rift by Thunderkick is all about. This software developer doesn’t feature on our site often, but it seems that their new mobile slot that has got extra spins, sticky wilds and a bonus game too has got it all going on. And if the game mechanics doesn’t grab you or the low to medium variance isn’t really your think, then surely the graphics and the audio of this mobile slot will win you right over. Read all about it in our Rift mobile slot review.
About The Slot
It is with great sadness that we have to report we’ve not reviewed a Thunderkick game before. We’ve always kept our eyes open to this relatively newcomer to the remote gambling market and wanted the developer team to prove itself before we gave them any attention.
Finally, with the releasing of The Rift, they’ve won us right over and we simply must tell you about this new machine, the predecessors of which are games like Esqueleto Explosivo, Flux and Toki Time. We’ve taken some time playing the game so that we can bring you the most comprehensive and thought out mobile slot review out there – have a read!
The Purple Rift Of The Unknown
Let’s discuss the theme first. Actually, we wouldn’t quite know how to describe it exactly, but it sure is intriguing. In a back cobble stone alley somewhere, a purple rift had opened in the floor and swallows the reel symbols as they go from one spin to another.
Meanwhile, the symbols themselves are equally as weird – ancient script books that are on fire, unknown coins, vials of green fluids and even an octopus like beast that resembles the mythical Kraken.
Indeed, pretty much the entire theme is based on a mish-mash of mythology, druid runes, magic and the purple rift itself, of course. The main premise of the game is that you collect all the valuable symbols and their combinations before they get swallowed up by the earth.

That’s Cool, But Can I Actually Win?
You’re right – let’s get down to business. The most important part of any mobile slot is the chance to win some dough and The Rift definitely offers that up. However, you’ll have to decide if the low to medium variance of this machine is suitable for you. Let us tell you right now that it won’t be if you prefer high risk slots, as Rift offers up occasional medium wins from features and many small ones in regular gameplay.
You can wager anywhere from 10p all the way up to £100, so in terms of bet adaptability, this is a great machine. The theoretical payout is 96.3%, which is generous yet standard in the industry. One thing that will catch your eye is the maximum payout – £51,000.
We’re not sure how we feel about that number. Whereas it certainly isn’t blowing us away as much as we’d like. Simply compare it to other machines, such as Aloha Cluster Pays if we have to think of one from the top of our head – the maximum payout on that is £200,000 flat.
So, while we think that The Rift is innovative and fun to play, it doesn’t have a super-high chance of making you silly rich in a few gameplay sessions. One word of advice would be to watch out for features as they are your only chance to win cash and make the game itself that much more fun. Scroll down for full details.
Game Features: Sticky Wilds, Respins and Extra Spins
The Rift is all about saving the most valuable symbols from being swallowed up by the purple rift in the ground, so you’ll get the maximum sums out of scoring winning combos. The best way to do that is to trigger one of the features or better yet a combination of them – that’ll ensure massive wins!
Before we get into the really fancy and slightly complicated features of the machine, we need to mention some of the simple features. As every game, The Rift has got wilds, which go truly and really Wild during extra spins, more on which later.
More notable, however, are the respins. Whenever you get at least two scatters, Rift logos, on screen, you’ll get awarded a single respin of the reels. In essence, this is a extra spin that’s much better than a regular extra spin for one simple reason – sticky wilds.
If you trigger the respin and there are wilds in the winning combination, then these will stay sticky and from one to three extra wilds will also be awarded for the respin. You could end up with a massive amount of wilds for the respin, contributing to a ginormous win. That’s not basic at all!
Two Sorts Of Extra Spins
But even more exciting than the extra and sticky wild respins are the extra spins on The Rift mobile slot. Whenever you get three, four or five scatters to show up on the invisible reels set against a backdrop of a mysterious seal, you’ll get through to the extra spins.
Based on how many scatters triggered it, the seal will be activated and you’ll get 10, 15 or 20 extra spins. During those extra spins, each scatter symbol that shows up on the reels will count towards filling the seal, one point by one point. Every three points reached will get you an extra sticky wild and two more extra spins.
The total grand max of three wilds can be added and six extra extra spins awarded, which could mean that you’re playing through 26 extra spins and as many sticky wilds as you’re lucky to get. The potential for massive wins is huge here! You can regularly expect at least six or eight wilds on the screen and as you can expect, the winning combos are very rewarding.
However, keep in mind that as soon as wilds are used up in a winning combo, they will disappear. Those that don’t form a win will remain sticky for as long as the extra spins keeps on going.
